Kuala Lumpur has an equatorial climate defined by hot year round temperatures and abundant rainfall. The Titiwangsa Mountains in the west and the mountainous Indonesian island of Sumatra to the east offer protection to the city and influence its climate. The southwest monsoon rain hits KL between September and April but rainfall is not too high throughout the season. The best time to visit KL is between June and August, when the weather is driest.
